FREE public talk: 'Language Revitalisation in Northern British Columbia'
We are delighted that visiting student, Trisha McCreery, will be giving a talk about language revitalisation in Northern British Columbia on Monday 22nd May in the Guild Room, Peel (opposite the Centenary Centre), starting at 7.30pm. All are very welcome to join - we would love to see you there!
Trisha has been here on the Island for a month, learning about Manx language revitalisation, and getting stuck into island life! She is studying for a degree in First Nation Studies at the University of Northern British Columbia and her talk on Monday evening will explore some of the history of indigenous peoples in Canada and the factors that led to language loss. She will then look at language revitalisation with a particular focus on Tahltan, the language of her own nation. It will be fascinating!
