Bob. When we say, Cre'n ennym t'ort? we're saying, literally, 'What the name is on you?' because that's the idiom in Manx. 'Yn ennym' means 'the name' in Manx. 'Cre' is 'What'. 'Cre'n ennym . .', 'What the name'. 'Ta ort', shortened to 't'ort' means 'is on you': 'ort' means 'on you'. Cre'n ennym t'ort? – 'What the name is on you?', 'What's your name?' – Cre'n ennym t'ort?

Cre'n ennym t'ort? could be 'Mish Bob'. Mish is simply 'I' or 'me', in an emphatic way, 'Mish Bob', which is rather like saying 'Me Tarzan', in fact, so Tarzan actually uses a Manx idiom. So 'Mish Bob' means 'I'm Bob'. Mish _____. I'm _____. [Mish _____] Mish _____. Mish Bob. Cre'n ennym t'ort? What's your name? Cre'n ennym t'ort? -

Mish Bob. This is the most common response to Cre'n ennym t'ort because it's quick and easy to say. There are other ways of finding out who someone is. Quoi uss? Means 'Who are you?' 'Quoi' is a question asking 'Who', 'Quoi'; and 'uss' means 'you' in an emphatic way, 'uss'. Quoi uss? Who are you? [Quoi uss?] ---------- Quoi uss? So: in reply, you could just say your name, or say either: Ta'n ennym orrym Bob, or Mish Bob. Cre'n ennym t'ort?
Ta'n ennym orrym Chris. Quoi uss?
Mish Bob. When using Mish you can, for even more emphasis, say: 'She mish Bob' [She mish Chris] or 'She Bob mish' [She Chris mish]. All are perfectly acceptable ways of introducing yourself.

Bob. She Bob mish. Cre'n ennym t'ort?
Mish Chris. Ta'n ennym orrym Chris.
If you want to find out what his name is then we say: Cre'n ennym t'er? What's the name on him? 'Er' means 'on him', 'er'. Cre'n ennym t'er? What's his name? [Cre'n ennym t'er?] ----------Cre'n ennym t'er?
If you want to find out what her name is then we say: Cre'n ennym t'urree? What's the name on her? 'Urree' means 'on her', 'urree'. Cre'n ennym t'urree? What's her name? [Cre'n ennym t'urree?] ---------- Cre'n ennym t'urree?
So let's meet some imaginary friends now.

Again there's that other way using Quoi, the question, Who?: Quoi eshyn? - Who's he? - Quoi eshyn? ---------- Quoi eshyn?
Quoi ish? - Who's she? - Quoi ish? [Quoi ish?] ---------- Quoi ish?
In answer to Quoi eshyn? - Who's he? – Quoi eshyn?
She eshyn Juan. She Juan eshyn. Ta'n ennym er Juan. Eshyn Juan.
And to Cre'n ennym t'urree, What's the name on her/Who's she? – Cre'n ennym t'urree?
She ish Mary. Ta'n ennym urree Mary. Ish Mary. She Mary ish.
So let's recap. To ask someone who they are you can say: Cre'n ennym t'ort? - What's your name? Cre'n ennym t'ort?
Chris. Ta'n ennym orrym Chris. Cre'n ennym t'ort?
Bob. Mish Bob. She Bob mish. You might ask, 'Quoi uss?' - Who are you?

To find out who someone else is you can say: Cre'n ennym t'er? - What's his name? Cre'n ennym t'er?

Or you can ask: Quoi eshyn? - Who's he?

And in the case of a female: Cre'n ennym t'urree? - What's her name? Cre'n ennym t'urree? or Quoi ish? Who's she? Quoi ish?
